SEO Specialist: What Exactly Do They Do (Job Description)
• Exceptionally strong knowledge and background in on site and off site seo. This will be the main focus of the position. Candidate will create, maintain and fully optimize all web pages and manage multiple local listings including Google + pages, Yahoo local listings, Bing local listings, etc. Must have a strong working knowledge of Google places, now Google + and local seo best practices.
• Help create quality web content including blog posts, articles, press releases and social media posts.
• Create and maintain our social media campaign including but not limited to Twitter account as well as multiple Facebook profiles.
• Conduct strategic citation and link building campaign and keep up with current industry trends.
• Create and submit content to all types of directories and IYP’s
• Strong knowledge of global on-site optimization: meta tags, page elements, robots.txt, canonical links, content, xml /site maps, 301 re-directs,etc.
• Create and maintain video marketing campaign and syndication
• Research and implementation of keyword (including long-tail) opportunities. Evaluate competitors keywords.
"Soft” Skills Required to be an SEO Specialist
Communication Skills: As indicated above in the “Liaison” section, an SEO specialist interacts with many different parties, hence, they must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Self-Starter: As the position entails so many elements, an SEO specialist should be a self starter; someone who doesn’t require handholding. They should be able to assess a situation, develop a plan, get approval and run with it.
Analytical Thinker: Piggybacking on the last skill, it’s imperative that SEO specialists possess critical thinking and analytical skills. They should be able to readily identify problems and formulate practical solutions.
Cool Headed: The ability to work well under pressure; keep a cool head and demeanor.
Prior Experience: Many firms want you to have previous experience in this position, however if you can demonstrate that you possess all the above, you should be able to land a position as an SEO Specialist.
Qualifications :
Employers typically seek a bachelor’s degree and one to three years website experience. Previous SEO experience is desired. Knowledge of HTML, CSS and other common programming languages, as well as Microsoft Office may also be required.
